Date: 2005-08-23 06:42 am (UTC)From:1. If you have any interest in baseball, and I'm not sure you do, and the Dodgers are in town, you should see a game there. It's truly a magnificent experience.
2. If you've never attended a television program, you should do that. Leno, Craig Ferguson and a couple of others tape talk shows, and sometimes give freebies to the audience.
3. Studio tour. LA is an industry town. If you can do the Warner bros. lot tour, that's the one to do. If not, Universal is ok.
4. Drive PCH. The Pacific Coast Highway is a strip of asphalt that borders the ocean. There's nothing quite like driving this baby. Go up to Santa Barbara, make a u turn and come back.
5. Venice Beach. It's a sight to see. The boardwalk is fully populated on a beautiful LA day. It's a slice of life in LA LA Land. Grab a slice of pizza from a food stand, snap on some roller skates, or just walk around.
6. Catch a movie. Well, it is Hollywood! Go visit one of the massive movie palaces. You'll find them.
7. Cruise the Sunset Strip. As Huey Lewis sang, it's "something ev'ry one should see." It's somewhere between Times Square and Electric Avenue in Vegas.
8. Get gas. I'm sure the price will be in the $3 range. Go to ARCO. They tend to have the cheapest prices... at least last time I checked.
That'll keep you busy!
When will you be going, btw?

3. I thought of that. Good tips.
4. Highway 1 out of Santa Monica? That sounds good. We could head up into the hills from there.
5, 6, 7, 8. At this point, we're only planning on spending a day or so there. We'll have to be a little picky. A visit to a cemetery is already on the list.
Thanks a lot!

Date: 2005-08-23 10:05 am (UTC)From:I'd go shopping for oxygen tanks and masks to make sure I could keep breathing during my visit.
Keep your wallet in your front pocket and don't go out alone after dark.

Date: 2005-08-23 05:47 pm (UTC)From:The beaches - Newport is just a tad south of LAX, and a famous beach for body surfing, etc.
The Queen Mary is in Long Beach (not a good beach, as beaches go), not far from LAX.
There's Disneyland and the new Disney California theme park.
One thing you might want to do - actually a few - get good maps of this area, and make sure your routes are pre-planned. Get the optional GPS mappy thingy in the rental car.
The desert is a nice place to visit sometimes! :-) There's a "park" in Palmdale with an SR-71 and a few other supersonic airplanes...

Thanks, talk to you later. :-)

Date: 2005-08-23 06:24 pm (UTC)From:You should spend the day planning your obvious next trip to the San Francisco Bay Area! Otherwise, check out Venice Beach and the Sunset Strip (where many rockers performed in the 60's).
