An engineer acquaintance posted a t-shirt on Facebook, that reads "Wake up smarter - sleep with an engineer."

His ex wife commented "Oh, I so want to comment . . ."

I'm not sure it matters that he was featured in a recent LJ post of mine, about Facebook.

A friend shared a graphic by the Tea Party, with a picture of a box of Crackerjack. The captions said "White Americans find this name offensive. If it's good enough for the Washington Redskins, Is it also time for Obama's patent office to CANCEL Cracker Jack's trademark as well, right?"

I said, "this is the stupidest thing you've posted in months."

His reply, "Yep and it follows the stupid things that people do in the name of political correctness."

Me... breathe... Pause... Eventually...

"So you posted that in seriousness? You think the requests by certain ethnic groups for others to not portray them as caricatures is PC? And they're told, "oh lighten up, it's a joke." "You think my culture is a joke?" And you think those requests are not only unnecessary political correctness, but stupidity? And not just regular stupidity, but as stupid as the made-up shit in this picture? That's fucked up. Really fucked up. To be honest, it disgusts me that my friends believe this shit. I like to think I have smart friends, but you're challenging me."

He liked that comment.

Okay, Facebook follies...

You know those jokes about something incredibly stupid that our president says? The kind that's been around through several presidencies? Someone posted one of those.

Someone replied, "According to Snopes, this is a hoax. But who knows. I don't trust Snopes."

WTF? Are you kidding me? You had to look that up? And then... you don't trust Snopes? Are you kidding me?

How many IQ are you? Hold up your fingers!

A facebook acquaintance posted, "Do we look like we are boozers? Every restaurant tries to put us in the bar and then doesnt just ask but tries to push "adult beverages" on us! I am going to start wearing a sign "WE DON'T DRINK!""

Only teetotalers consider a frequent, "can I get you guys a beer?" as pushing alcoholic beverages on them.

And no, this complaint doesn't make these teetotalers complete morons. Not like the previous complaint was about.

An acquaintance just posted an inflammatory anti-Obama graphic in facebook. I responded with a Snopes page to debunk it. She replied "Why would you post a link to a crap website with false stuff instead of look at a legit site to see the facts?"

So first of all, she called Snopes a crap website. Snopes? You've got to be kidding me. Yes, I know some feel there are better sites out there, but still. Snopes?

Okay, so her response was to backup her inflammatory graphic with the real stats from an actual government webpage. Fine. But guess what? Those stats on that government website agreed with Snopes.

I guess anyone who disagrees with you is stupid, and anything you say is correct.

I had to come in to work for a couple of hours, and I'll have to come back for a couple more, later. The furnace guys said they'd be finished sometime between one and two o'clock. Right in the middle of the day.
