exhibition opening
Jul. 12th, 2024 11:48 pmTonight was the opening for an exhibition. It was at the Art*Bar. We have a good relationship with Don, the owner and the guy who runs the art, and have had shows there for many years. A few years ago, I entered five pieces in a show there, and four were accepted. I decided that was good enough, and since then, I only enter one piece every year. These shows are fairly easy to get into, so I thought I'd leave more openings for newer members. And now, as president, I felt I didn't even want to win a prize. So guess who won a prize?
Two awards were given. One is Don's prize, which is a $100 gift card for the bar and the associated restaurant. The other is the Board prize, where the board members choose their favorite, and the artist gets a year's membership. I got the $100 prize. So I had to give a little speech and announce the winners, including myself.

It was kind of an odd theme. The prospectus read "In a photographic study of shadows, how do we highlight the spaces in between? When the reflection is the subject what’s lurking in the background? What does the negative space in a photograph provoke in the viewer? When does the background become the subject?" So one way to interpret this was with images where the subject is unclear. Like mine, with foreground versus background.
