I've really gotten tired of this cold. I don't mind a few below zero days now and then, but it's been weeks since it's been above 20°. It's been a few days since it's been above ten. I'm sure it was below zero when I came home from work today. The official Milwaukee temperatures (there was a high of 2°F today) are always a few degrees warmer than it is up here in the country. And, yes, I know that there are many places that are colder than it is here right now. Like, Minneapolis is more than ten degrees colder than it is here.

But it's not just the outdoor temperature that's bothering me. It's the indoor temperature. My thermostat reads the same as it always does, but I'm nearly shivering. I can feel drafts. Cool air is rolling across the floor. The furnace is running all the time.

At least there's been snow on the ground all month.

I've been shivering for a month or more, too. The outside temps here aren't as bad as they are where you are, but it's been in the teens and twenties for several weeks. Today was unusually warm, reaching 37. Inside, though, we can't do anything to keep the temp above 66 or so. It's either run the heat constantly (which I won't do because it's an incredible waste and it dries the air unbearably), or just bundle up. When I do pump up the indoor temp to about 71 or so, it takes about fifteen minutes before it's dropped down to 66. If I don't run the heat at all, it just hovers around 66. It's all very frustrating, and I'm shivering right now arggh!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this entry. I was beginning to feel like a baby. It is so cold in my house! I know I need new windows, but these temperatures are insane. Kansas is not as cold as Wisconsin, and not as cold for as long, but we've been over a week below 20°F, which is hateful.

I am so, so, so ready for Spring.

Well, I already sent Cyn a warm hug from California, so guess I'll send one to you, too! Both of you - cuddle up, for Pete's sake!!

My heat pump hasn't clicked off in over two weeks, and a vast majority of that time the emergency heat light is lit... meaning I am paying out the wazoo in electricity.

Houses down here were designed to loose their heat and hold in the cool, and that has never been so apparent to me as it has this year. No.. it ISN'T cold compared to the rest of the nation, but damnit it is cold for here, and I too have been cold into my bones for weeks now. It was supposed to stay above freezing last night for the first time in this week.. but it sure doesn't feel like it.
I'd cry, but my tears would freeze.

*shiver shiver shiver*

don't wanna go out. it's -29
*shiver shiver shiver*

Isn't this crap supposed to END soon?!?!?! Like maybe next week?

It's beating me down, too. This morning as I was getting ready for work, MPR said it was -44. I thought -34 yesterday was bad. Good lord. That's wind chill of course, but even the actual air temp is something like -25.

If this was a short little snap I wouldn't mind, but as you say, it's been below 20 for a couple of weeks now and it looks like we have a couple of weeks more to go.

Ugh.

A long-time friend grew up in Minneapolis and lived in that area most of her life. I always thought Milwaukee and Minneapolis were about the same when it came to cold. Her stories about driving to the places she taught art pesuaded me I was wrong.

After retirement they spent several years in Minn. in the summer and AZ in the winter. Now they live in AZ full time. It was marvelous when I visited her in January.

I know I'm not feeling it half as much as some other folks around here. I'm lucky in that my apartment building provides free heat, and boy, do they. It's sleeping in your skivvies weather in my bedroom. So, that really does help. I have a refuge!!

Are your windows leaky? I finally got the rope caulk and inside plastic on mine. My windows are not good at all.

Some of my windows are *very* leaky. I don't usually do anything about it, but last night I ran a line of masking tape around my kitcchen windows where all the cold air was blowing in. I don't know why I didn't do that a month ago.
