What is it with fires? There was that club fire in Rhode Island. There was the subway fire in South Korea. A place next to my dad's gallery burned pretty bad. And the grandmother of a friend of a friend died when their house burned (and they lost all their posessions).

there was a fire this morning in a convalescent home, too. Ten people died and dozens were injured. =o( what makes this even worse, if it could be any worse, is that they suspect arson.

I'm going to go for "yes, that makes it worse". It's always wrong to do something like that regardless, but I personally feel such crimes become unforgiveable when they are done against people with no real chance of escaping or fighing back. What sort of cold, calculating nerve does it take to smother an elderly person? How hard was that? How could you even begin to find that satisfying? It's disgusting in any circumstance, but this.... Sheesh!

Weird week for news.
I still think they are trying to distract us.

There's been so much death and distruction in the last two weeks. It should make me appreciate my own life by knowing it could end just like that. *snaps fingers* But actually it just makes me very very sad.

I'm not sure if I appreciate my life more, but it does give me a little more resolve to enjoy what I have and what I see.

Don't forget to smell the flowers, feel the sunlight on your face, the gentle wind urging you forward, drops of rain or snow on your hand or tongue, earth between your toes. Enjoy the warmth of a smile, or the message from a friend.

it seems like it's everywhere~
is it possible that we are being made aware of it instead?~

Well, I didn't mention a club fire in Madison last week (nobody hurt) because it only came up because of the deadly one in RI.

How often do I hear about a FoF involved with a fire? Not every year.

FoF=friend of friend?
that's the stand-out one, of course~
but the RI and Chicago fires were hot topic reporting, right?
and friends telling us from other states about their neighborhood happenings
is another way in which fast connections burden us with more information
than we would normally have to process~
