Back in early December, I went to the beach. It was a very calm day. The level of the lake has gone down a bit, so there's beach again. But the bluffs have still been eroded since the last time I was there.

On December 17, I took the afternoon off work and did some Christmas shopping in the city. Since I had some time to kill, and was nearby, I took a drive through Forest Home cemetery. I stopped by my favorite angels.

Here's Miss Chapman. She had been restored a few years ago. She was in good shape except that her arms had been detached and reattached at a different angle. And it wasn't a good job. So they fixed her arms right, and took the green patina off. The green is starting to come back.

This angel is a memorial cast in honor of Timothy Appleton Chapman (1824-1892). Chapman was a dry goods merchant in early Milwaukee. Upon his death in 1892, the pioneer’s wife and two daughters commissioned this sculpture. The sculptor is artist Daniel Chester French. He had done a few famous cemetery monuments, but is best known for the statue inside the Lincoln Memorial.
