And so, we are at the end of a year that has brought a presidential impeachment trial, a deadly pandemic that has killed more than 338,000 of us, a huge social movement for racial justice, a presidential election, and a president who has refused to accept the results of that election and is now trying to split his own political party.

It’s been quite a year.

But I had a chance to talk with history podcaster Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers yesterday, and he asked a more interesting question. He pointed out that we are now twenty years into this century, and asked what I thought were the key changes of those twenty years. I chewed on this question for awhile and also asked readers what they thought. Pulling everything together, here is where I’ve come out.

vintage jackets

My mom had these jackets. One of her brothers (Jimmy?) brought them back from Asia in the 50's, when she was a teenager. At least three of her brothers were in the military. All Navy, I think. He could have landed anywhere, so I'm not sure where they came from. The first one looks Japanese (the mountain like Mt. Fuji, though they don't have tigers there), and the second one is Chinese.

I love this embroidered silk one. Too bad it's so faded. She must have worn it a lot. Where the blue remains unfaded, it's so brilliant.

locked out

Great. I'm locked out of LiveJournal. I wanted to log into a different account there, but I couldn't log back in, since I forgot my password. It's e-mailing me a link, but I haven't gotten the message.

It's funny that Dreamwidth still has my LJ password even though I don't. So it will crosspost, but I can't log in and comment.

For quite a while, I've only been getting LJ e-mails sporadically. Has anyone else been having this problem?
