Addressing the escalation, President Bush again urged Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to order a halt to the suicide bomb attacks against Israeli targets. Suicide bombings in the name of religion is simple terror, he said Monday.Interesting how Bush comes down on the side of the Israelis, but doesn't take a stand against Arafat. Kind of like he is talking like he supports the Israelis, but is trying not to piss off the Arabs.
But the president stopped short of applying to Arafat his oft-repeated own statements that those who harbor terrorists are terrorists. He said the Palestinian leader is excepted because of his past efforts to negotiate peace.

this was a good day
Apr. 1st, 2002 11:21 pmAside from spreading the news some more, It snowed most of the day. I drove over to my mom's and snow was everywhere - all the trees were covered - and it was falling gently in big flakes. It was the kind that makes you want to dance in it. My crocus flower buds are poking out of the snow - violet and golden noses, pointing skyward from their blankets.
Mom gave me a loaf of bread, and I picked it up right away, so it was still warm when I got it home - mmm!
I chatted with my Grandma for a while. Sometimes it is a little awkward talking with her, because I can't always think of enough to talk about, but this time we spoke for quite a while.
I had some free time tonight because there was no scout meeting - Easter holiday/spring break.

stories of the relatives
Apr. 1st, 2002 11:28 pmMy cousin's daughter is an excellent target shooter. She's good with a rifle. She was recently in some statewide competition. In between rounds she was walking along a lake and fell in. The water was over her head so she was soaked. A friend had some sweat pants she could borrow, and she had an extra t-shirt along. She ended up taking second place overall, so she had to walk across the stage and accept her award while dressed like that, and with wet hair. Twice, in fact, because the winner had to leave and asked her to accept his award for him.
She's twelve years old, and is traveling out of state to compete.
