of online proposals
Apr. 2nd, 2002 12:21 pmIt didn't occur to me until later that people wouldn't realize that Cindy and I were together when I made my proposal. Not that I thought they'd think we were apart - I just hadn't given it any thought at all. We're always together on weekends, unless I'm away for a scout outing or something.
When she was checking her e-mail I was wandering around in the background, trying to keep busy. When she finally went to LJ I was brushing my teeth, so I had to finish that up in a hurry. The hitch came when she took the time to thank me for the ring, rather than clicking on to the next link. that was kind of a "duh" moment. If I had realized that would happen, I'm not sure if I would have gone through with this method of proposal - I can't think of a way around that. She was a bit uncomfortable because she didn't know if it was that sort of ring or not. And of course it fit that finger, but I wasn't saying much of anything. Then she remembered to click the link.
Then I was kneeling next to her. Well, not kneeling like that, but just kneeling on the floor next to her as I often do when she's on the computer. So were together, and I do consider myself to have proposed in person. Besides, even if I had said the words out loud, I still might have read them. I didn't really want to leave them up to chance.
I realize it might not have been the most perfect marriage proposal, but we're both very happy with how it turned out.

world war three
Apr. 2nd, 2002 04:22 pmSharon knows that even if the Palestinians get land to call their own, they will still not be satisfied for long. They will still desire the eradication of Israel. This is why Sharon wants to eliminate the Palestinians.
Aside from the fact that genocide is wrong, this is not a practical solution. There will not be peace between the two sides until one of them has been obliterated - either Israel or all the Arabs. We can't have either of those "solutions."
There must not be war. There will always be antagonism between the two peoples, but we must try to maintain peace as best we can.
President Bush must grow some balls and tell Sharon that the U.S. will not support them in any way if the killing (shelling, executions, destruction of food and water supplies, etc.) continues. Just because we did it, doesn't make it right.
Besides all that, Sharon is just cutting his own throat. He's risking all out war with all the other Arab nations. Israel could hold its own in a war with any one country - even Iraq - but not all of them. Given how much our current administration likes oil, it would be risky for us to take sides against the Arab world.
