An acquaintance just posted an inflammatory anti-Obama graphic in facebook. I responded with a Snopes page to debunk it. She replied "Why would you post a link to a crap website with false stuff instead of look at a legit site to see the facts?"

So first of all, she called Snopes a crap website. Snopes? You've got to be kidding me. Yes, I know some feel there are better sites out there, but still. Snopes?

Okay, so her response was to backup her inflammatory graphic with the real stats from an actual government webpage. Fine. But guess what? Those stats on that government website agreed with Snopes.

I guess anyone who disagrees with you is stupid, and anything you say is correct.

I can't bring myself to cut someone for stupidity like that. It would appear they've won. They'd say "see, you liberals can't handle it!" I can, however, cut someone for being a complete asshole. I've got one guy who's toeing the line.

The guy was one of those "people from school", and the main thing that made me cut him was that I either had to do that, or filter him out of my news feed, which is roughly the same thing--if you can't stand seeing the stuff someone posts then IMO it's time to move on. I tried talking with this guy, and no dice. He would use those senseless sideways arguments, would do the textual equivalent of just waiting for his place to jump in, and he would start slinging passive-aggressive insults.

So all in all no fun.

For the most part I just live and let live with my "friends" on FB but there have been times where I just have to unfriend. In this case if she were mine I think I would enjoy unfriending her.

Since 99% of my friends are just random people that I added for game purposes I have to look at some pretty stupid stuff pretty often :(

Yes, but it's an ongoing argument. And she refuses to concede this particular one. She just stopped commenting and moved on.

I'm not on Facebook but I used to waste my time reading - and sometimes commenting on - Yahoo! news articles. Once I got so fed up with idiots saying what a traitor Jane Fonda is that I posted an excerpt from Snopes (can't post a link because Yahoo! won't show the comment). One person replied by stating that Snopes is just a left-wing propoganda site. What-the-fuck-ever.

They are. I know a couple that make up their own explanations for things, just to explain things they believe are wrong. One guy recently said that people vote liberal so they can get their free stuff. The liberal mindset is so alien to him, that he has to make up his own explanations for what we do.
