I went to a Scotcht tasting. I felt fine when I left. I was reallyk drunk when I got home (45 minutes ago), and I'm still really drunk now. Funny how alcholo cataches up with you.

Had nine different Scotches. And there were two empy eeats at our table, so I finished up a couple more drinks - shot sized. So that's probably 11 shots.

Wow. I can't remember when I was this drunk. I'm a lightweight.

*runs a warm bath* You'll really sleep like a log after a warm bath. Don't drown tho'. I wanna see your eyeballs in the morning. I'll be by at 5 AM with cymbals. And coffee.

Feel free. Are you an early riser? I don't usually notice when Cyn gets up at that time.

It is funny how long it takes, sometimes. I remember one time, where the buzz wore off before I was done with my drink. And this time, it was a half-hour drive home, and I felt fine when I left the place.

Too much Scotcht can do that to you. ;)

ok.. entertaining, I have to admit, but now that it is the light of day (here anyway) ... is there REALLY that much difference in SCOTCH??

Date: 2006-02-24 02:51 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Definitely. Maybe not to the uninitiated, but if you're paying attention, yes. I'd say Scotch is peertty much like wine, in that respect.

Date: 2006-02-24 02:52 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
No, I'm not still drunk. ;-)

Date: 2006-02-25 02:13 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ravenfeather.livejournal.com
*grin*
wOW.. That is a pretty broad statement. Yes, I am a wine drinker in this stage of my life.. but I never really noticed any difference in BRANDS of liquor.. except bourbon, which was my preference.

I think even the uninitiated could tell that there's a difference between the whiskeys made in different regions of Scotland - especially the ones from Islay. Each region has its own common charcteristics.

Beyond that, the different whiskeys have much variation. It really is a lot like wine tasting, where the experts can pick out various aromas and flavors. And there are different strengths of flavor. Reportedly, the whiskeys pick up flavors and aromas from the air. So a distillery warehouse by the seaside will pick up a salt of seaweed scent, and in the Highlands, they'll pick up a faint scent of heather. Sometimes they pick up the sherry flavor and color from the barrels they are matured in.

A few years back, Cyn was dating a guy who liked Scotch. Once he brought over some Scotch. She didn't like it. Said it tasted like smoky shoe leather. And she joked a lot about Scotch tasting like smoky shoe leather. So a couple of years ago, I got my dad a bottle of something for his birthday. I gave her a sip, and her eyes went wide and she said, "smokey shoe leather!" I showed her the bottle and she said it was the same one. "Yeah, it's got the boat." There are not too many Scotches with sailboats on the label, so I believe her.

So yeah, each one has its own distinctive taste.

I know that they add some pretty odd stuff to wine to give it flavors, or age it in certain types of wood to impart "oak" etc.. so the thought of what they do to get a "smokey shoe leather" taste in scotch... ehh.. might keep me away from it. *grin*

Or at least stay away from the Bowmore Mariner.

I dunno about mixing all those scotches....

Can you remember which one tasted the best to you?

I'm having an extra drink of coffee for you.

Right now.

Date: 2006-02-24 12:55 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] mummm.livejournal.com
Oh sure... use Kevin as an excuse for the extra coffee! *grin*

Date: 2006-02-24 02:54 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's not good to mix alcohols.

The Lagavulin was very good, but that's one of my favorites already. I liked the Caol Isla a lot, and the Johnnie Walkers were good (not strong, but smooth).

So yes, I remember. ;-)

I want to add your journal to my friend's list if it's ok with you...I've been going through the back door to read you, and sometimes I miss stuff!

I'd say being drunk at 11 shots does not make you a lightweight :)

I hope you're feeling ok today.

Date: 2006-02-24 07:30 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Yeah, I suppose if 21 can be fatal, 11 is for drunk. Probably wasn't quite that much, though. It was hard to tell.

I'm fine today. I was a little queasy for a while after I got up.
