When we were in Tucson, Dave took us up to Gates Pass, just outside of town, to watch the sunset. It was the most spectacular sunset I've ever seen, and Dave said it was pretty high on his list, too.

Sunsets are a regular event out there. The lower parking lot was nearly full. There is a bench built into the peak of that hill.

Walking up to the stands
Walking up to the stands. Cyn and I sat at the top of that rock.

Taking their seats
Taking their seats. Dave and Shoo sat on that ledge, while Cyn joined me on top. There were people all over the hillside opposite us, but only us four on the rock on the left.

To our left

I wanted to wave my arms to see if I cast a shadow over Tucson.

Looking down.

magnificent vistas, and yes, we do have the best sunsets out here in the west, I believe.

Oh yes you do! I can't think of a better place to watch sunsets.

GORGEOUS! And to be able to sit and watch it unfold, to take that kind of time, that is pretty damn special too!

Oh man, my work computer monitor sucks! Most of these pictures are too dark for me to see. :(

That's almost like being there.

That's what photographers call magic light time. Excellent photos!

I could hardly believe it when those hills lit up, all red-gold.

WOW! You took some great photos there, Kevin. I love the ones of Cyn :-), but of course all of them are spectacular.

Gorgeous!

Now you have to come up this way to see sunrise over Mount Rainier.

Here (http://pics.livejournal.com/riverheart/pic/0000a3yx/g1)'s a sample, and not the best I've seen, either. Taken right from our back deck.

Ooooh!

Those are just breathtaking! I'm glad Cyn directed us to your journal. Did you ever consider being a professional photographer as you were thinking of your life-work choices?

I would like having you as an LJ friend too, if you would not mind?

I suppose you are in the wrong location to see the BEAUTIFUL sunsets on Lake MIchigan. We sat on top of the dunes one night and it was just awesome watching the sunset in the water. It's beyond description.

I'd be happy just to be an amateur photographer.

No need to ask - friend away!

True, but we can see Lake Michigan sunrises. Not that I stay up that late very often...

Date: 2005-12-21 05:22 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] mummm.livejournal.com
Well if that would make you happy then... CONGRATULATIONS! You ARE an amateur photographer! See? Easy! Be happy! ;-)

You are added. Thank you!

In some households seeing the sunrise might involve getting up early, but if you want to try to stay up late that could work too...

*grin*

Actually, this time of year, the sun rises about the time my alarm goes off, but I never see anything very interesting.

Date: 2005-12-21 07:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] mummm.livejournal.com
I think we beat the sun in rising, but we are nowhere near the lake to see anything. Besides, we are more in position for seeing the sunset.
I don't know about you, but I don't notice a heck of a lot in the morning on a workday anyway.

oh..prettie :)

You know, the general landscape is much like the outlook from the peak of Mt Sinai at sparrow's fart.

What was the flora like in that part of the world? At Gates Pass it was saguaro cacti.

Date: 2005-12-22 02:29 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] hinterland.livejournal.com
It's pretty barren, except for the burning bush which is still lush.

The sunset at Gates Pass is nice....and it's a particularly good bike ride....except for the cars.....i'd like to get back to tucson in february.....
