Even when things work, they don't work. What a crappy night.

After a trip back to the store, my disk drives are working, but I apparently can't burn any discs.

Nero just fiddles while the city around me burns discs.

last night i installed Roxio. It took about 20 minutes.

Then I selected 19 songs and burned a disk for a friend to borrow.

Just like that.

I use a tool called "mkisofs" to make data disks that can be read on any machine (mac, pc, unix, etc); nero, roxio (etc) can't make such images, but they can burn them. (it's a geek-tool, probably overkill.)

Actually, it turned out that Nero was just writing the information to file. I had to choose the drive where I wanted the disc burned. Pretty dumb.
