We went camping this past weekend. Was... good.

It took forever to get there. Partly because of a detour, party because the towns along the way are bigger, and the speed limits slower. When we got there, we started supper and set up the tent while it was cooking. It was dark by the time we were done with that, and I had apparently forgotten the flashlight. The lantern had a broken mantle, and after I used the last replacement, it was worse than when I started. It gave us enough light to eat by, though. So the weekend started off frustratingly.

After supper, I got a fire going, so we had light to do the dishes by. We forgot our chairs, though, but things were looking up, nonetheless. I can't remember a camping trip where we forgot so many things. But we didn't forget any food items, or tent/sleeping bags, so nothing was essential. Except maybe the paper towels. In the morning, we drove into town and picked up a chair at St. Vinnie's, and other things at K-mart. I found my flashlight shortly after we got back to camp.

We took a long hike around the lake. It was kind of a long walk down to the north beach, where we took the Tumbled Rocks trail along the west side of the lake. Then along the road on the south side. Then, after a break at the south beach, we climbed the East Bluff, on the Devil's Door trail. This was mostly steps made of pink quartzite rocks. About 300 feet up, I think. It took a lot out of us. Cyn never quite recovered. Down wasn't so good either, because the slope jammed our toes into our shoes. I really needed a shower after that, but the power was out and there was no water. I had to wait until well after supper.

Supper was steaks, potatoes and corn, all done in or on the fire. Then s'mores. then shower, then sleep and stiffening of the joints.

Sunday morning was packing and leaving. We took the ferry at Merrimac. Then we took the long way home (the freeway) to avoid the construction detour.

For some reason, the bad stuff sticks out more than the good stuff, but it was good, overall.

yeah, but it'll be the one you remember 10 years from now, and laugh about.

We made up a checklist of things to bring, so we'll be lughing about it every time we go. :-)

Where did you shower?

Baked potatoes in the fire...that's good stuff.

It's a very large campground, so they had showers.

Yeah, they were good, except they burned. Fortunately, not very deep, but next time we'll use two layers of foil
