Anybody play Vampire? I'm in need of a character idea. Help?

If my Bub ever gets around to running her game, I'm going to play a vampire that started out his life as a trapper in French Canada in the late 1700's. I can't remember what clan he was going to be, but I remember that I planned on running him quiet, decisive and pragmatic.

I came up with him as an alternative to a Mage character I was getting bored of in a World of Darkness campaign.

My original Vampire character was a little teenage girl who'd just recently gotten bitten after seeing her family murdered by thugs at a rest stop. She was Brujah.

I think my trapper was Gangrel. Or maybe something else... was there a three eyed clan once? They probably erased all trace of it after the 3rd ed.

I'm used to setting up elaborate and interesting character histories for my Shadodwrun characters, but I've never written a Vampire character before, so I'm kinda lost.

I had a few ideas, but they're all for old vampires, which is not allowed for our starting charcters. I suppose I only need a basic embrace story, a clan, a hobby and some basic personality traits.

Are you familiar with 3rd? There are only five clans - Nosferatu, Ventrue, Daeva, Gangrel and Mekhet. All the other old clans (as far as I know) are bloodlines within the clans. Bruja (Gangrel) is a biker gang based in Baja.

Honestly, I've avoided all White Wolf third ed games like plague. I can't really tell you why, but they made me mad when they started changing EVERYTHING about the game world and it took all the fun out of it for me.

I can see why veteran players would be upset with the changes. They cut to the heart of how the game world was set up. From what little I knew of the previous world, I like the new one. Things seem cleaner and more streamlined. It works.

Shadowrun is going to a new edition (4th!), and we're lucky. They're making drastic changes to the rules, but the world isn't changing very much. The world history is advancing by five years, but they're not changing any back-history. Actually, some of the rules and character archetypes are changing, but that's related to the advance of technology.

If I'd never ever played Mage I might not have minded. But I have, and I have a handful of characters I really like. Adapting them to the New Game World just never struck me as a good idea. Now this ShadowRun thing... I've never really played that with any degree of committment so it might be a fun thing to play with. I'll mention it to Jay and see what he says. He's the ShadowRun head around here.
