Heather had U-Haul reservations for today, and she had to be out of her old apartment by noon. It shouldn't be hard to guess what happened, with regard to U-Haul. No truck. Apparently your reservations don't guarantee a truck. I'm sure their explanation is that the previous renters didn't return it on time, but I suspect they overbook. I've heard too many people, too many times, complaining of the same thing.

Fortunately, a friends parents (or someone), had an SUV and were able to help carry her bed, couch and a couple of big things over last night. Unfortunately, that still left the bulk of her stuff to be carried in Cyn's station wagon. I lost count, but I think it was six trips with the wagon, and five trips with Heather's escort. And they were packed solid. I think Heather got the keys turned in at 1:30. Supposedly, they'll fine her for being late, so U-haul *cost* her money there, but I think she saved money by not renting a truck.

The weather was good. We were hot and sweaty, but I can only imagine what it would have been like if it were really hot out there. Or raining. I'm stiff now. And headachey. I was trying to drink a lot of water, so I don't think it's dehydration. But then again, I'm just dead right now. I just want to sit on the couch and stare.

It would have been a sweet move, if we'd had a truck. We could have put the ramp right up to the porch. We'd have had a dolly to move the heavy things, liek the dressers and the stacks of boxes of books. Four of us could have walked all the stuff onto the truck in an hour or so, leaving the place empty so Heather could clean. We wouldn't have had to do that jigsaw puzzle thing of packing the cars. We could have been done and out of there by mid-afternoon.

We didn't get done moving until after five. We got everything into the parking lot in back, so she could return the keys, but we were only halfway done by then. Someone had to sit with the stuff, while the rest of us took loads to the new place. It made for a long day. Actually, I was surprised at how few trips we had to make.

Man. U-Haul really stinks sometimes!

Too bad you don't know anyone in the moving business who could have, oh, I dunno, pulled a string or two..... (just kidding).

We had problems with U-Haul the last time we moved, too. I will never use them again.

I know few people who've used them and haven't had trouble. Well... maybe 50%, but even if 80% haven't had trouble, that's pretty bad.
