Escher left a dead mouse on the bathroom rug, on sunday morning. Cyn's not sure she'd ever killed a mouse before. She used to find them and play with them for a while, until she'd lose interest and they'd run away. This one looked... worked over. Messed up, but not chewed up.

The one Cyn found in the family room on monday morning was chewed up, but most of its parts were there.

I'm surprised. Until the dead ones showed up, I hadn't seen any sign we had mice. And now there were two in two days.

Last night, the thought of a mouse in the house - or bedroom - kept me awake, for some reason. At one point, I dreamed I heard one scurrying across the hardwood floor... I *think* it was a dream, anyway. After a while, I heard Escher chasing one around. Cyn found it in the morning, fully intact, in the middle of the family room.

When I got home from work today, Escher came out of the back hall, instead of waiting by the front door. As usual, she was relentless in her quest to get food from me. After ten minutes, I went to the back hall to put more food in her dish, and saw a live mouse run into the laundry room.

Crap.

Does Escher go in and out during the day, or does she just stay in the house?

Our cats have a cat door, but they have to stay in at night. During the day they dearly love to bring in live creatures for our approval. Escher might be doing that. She is very, very proud of herself you know.

Escher is always in the house, never outside. The mice are finding their own way in. Maybe there's a little swinging mouse door somewhere? ;)

She ain't too proud to beg! If she had the mouse in the afternoon, she left it to ask me for food.

That's one of the pitfalls of living in the country. Make sure all of your food has been cleaned up. Don't leave dishes in the sink. Keep things in closed containers.
And be glad you've got a kitty.

YAY for Escher!

I have a mouse in the house again, after being inhouse mouse free for a couple of years. Unfortunately we are allergic to cats.. so will have to resort to poison in the non dog areas of the house.
