Date: 2005-08-01 04:39 pm (UTC)From:On the serious side, if you're just looking at XP home eddition vs ME, there are some good enhancements on the XP side, but unless you're having problems with ME or want some software that won't work on ME, if ME is working, I'd be a bit resistant to moving to XP. XP will soak up more RAM, more CPU cycles, and more of your hard drive. If you've got plenty of space and CPU to spare, then go for it.
I've got XP pro on 4 computers I use, Linux on 2, and Solaris on 3 - of all of it, I like the Solaris the best, but that's not exactly an OS for home use.
Note: if you're planning on installing a new disk drive on the ME machine (soon to be XP), you might want to install the new drive first. I've been having a hell of a time upgrading a friends system with a new disk, because XP isn't playing nicely (not even with any of the hi-tech copy programs i have).
I'd reccomend doing a complete de-frag and chkdisk first. For that I'd suggest something like Diskeeper boot-time defrag (set to defrag MFTs and paging area).
