I co-worker at my office was "let go" recently. I would say that getting laid off was a positive thin for 60-80% of my co-workers that got tanked. I hope your friend lands on his/her feet...
Me too. I think losing this job wasn'tthe worst thing, but it came at an awkward time for him. He's been wanting to move out of the city, but he's stuck in a lease. So he'll have to find work before his lease is up, but then he'll have a job in town.
we lost about half the company due to downsizing from mid-2001 through the start of 2004. About 1200 employees all told. Some.. are still looking for work.
