I want to know what he was on to think that a nail in the head was just a thunk on the chin from the nail gun. Maybe he shouldn't be allowed to tough sharp things.

what i find so incredibly disturbing about this isn't the accident - it's the ginormeous bill!

what the hell, how could normal people ever be expected to pay that much? your health "service" is fucked up... i am really aggrevated about it...

Sorry I didn't respond sooner.

Yes, the health care industry is fucked up. There are many reasons for this. One is health insurance. Doctors don't want to overcharge the little guy who's paying the bill himself, but they don't worry about their bill when soem faceless insurance company is paying it. Medical school costs keep rising, and doctors demand more money to cover their tuition. Research costs keep rising. It's all driven by the free-market. And nobody who is in a position to change it (assuming that naybody is) is willing to do so.

this is a perfect example of why the free market philosophy just doesn't work. making us detached from what we are actually doing, detached from the fellow human beings around us. a doctor isn't supposed to make profit rates higher, she's there to take care of people who are sick.

I firmly believe in state intervention (not control) in central areas of human life that simply cannot be regulated by market forces, including health care, schools (as well as university!), communication, housing, wellfare, caretaking of the young and the elderly and so on.

yup, there's a big red heart beating behind these ribs! haha.

I'm opposed to the conservatives who are in favor of privatizing essential services, and other services that hold people's lives in their hands.

"This is the second one we've seen in this hospital where the person was injured by the nail gun and didn't actually realize the nail had been imbedded in their skull," neurosurgeon Sean Markey told KUSA-TV in Denver. "But it's a pretty rare injury."

TWO of these at this hospital?? What kind of people can get hit with a nail and not know it?? What's in the water out there in Colorado...novacaine?
