I had to go to Chicago to attend a trade show, so I worked it to go on a Sunday. I dropped Cyn off at ravengirl's in the morning, and went to the show. I found my way to the show easily easily, despite having little idea how to get there.

The packaging show was a little dull. I usually look forward to this one, but I guess I've seen it all before. Less than halfway through it, my hip started hurting. I have no idea why. It hasn't done that in years, and then it was because my knee was out of whack. So the rest of my muscles down there are all stiff from compensating for the hip. I probably should have done some stretching excercises or something when I got out of the car. Seated for 2-1/2 hours, then on my feet for four.

After the show I hung out with seamusd for a while. It was nice to chat. Then the girls joined us and we went out to eat.

Then we came home and saw some spectacular northern lights. By "spectacular," I don't mean like you see in pictures from the arctic, I mean "spectacular for here." I've only seen them once or twice in my life, and they didn't look anywhere near as nice as this. They filled up one full half of the sky, east to west, north to straight over head.

Oooooo, you're so lucky! I'd like to meet all of you in person someday. And the northern lights, too. wow.

You were at the bong recreation area? Hahaha! Sorry, I just had to say it.

I called my sister, and she could barely make them out because of the streetlights on her street. And she's in a tiny little town.

I love the aurora. I've only seen it once, and it was a fairly minimal show, but it's stuck with me.

About 3 days ago I saw a notice (from spaceweather.com) that a CME had been ejected from a large sunspot, with a possibility for hitting the Earth. I guess it's here.

How very cool!

What color was it? That is one thing I really DO miss about living in Alaska.. the full color, covering the sky, massive movement aurora that became so commonplace that you rarely did anything other than noticed it in the winter. I have seen it one time outside of Alaska, and it was greenish white, and had very little movement.

It was greenish, but there was one spot in the west that had some other colors - orange, I guess. Very pale. The whole show was pale enough, that most people probably didn't notice or didn't realize what it was. I only noticed because there was a small cloud in front of one big spot. If that hadn't caught my eye, I would have assumed it was just city lights lighting up a layer of clouds.

yep. That is pretty much what the aurora looks like to me outside of Alaska.
