I spent five minutes on the phone with the DOT, trying to speak to an operator. Then I spent a minute and a half on hold, but most of that time was listening to more prerecorded messages. Then my question was answered in about twenty seconds.

Five minutes! To work my way through four levels of menus, and back, trying to find where I needed to go with my unusual question. Five minutes!

Someone told me that the way to defeat this is to ignore the menus: press nothing and wait. They don't know what you want, so you get to speak to someone. I haven't tried it, though. I'm feel compelled to cooperate when they ask me to press buttons. No backbone, eh?
