I struggled for a while with getting these two computers networked together with the help of some online tutorials. I got them networked for both internet usage and to shrae files. Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to get them to share printers. When I ran the Network Wizard (I'm running WinME and Win98) I chose to share the printers, but nothing happened. Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to be doing, or where I can go to find help?

I have the exact same problem. If you figure out the answer, I'd like to know, too.

I don't have anything very helpful to say, but that's no reason to say nothing.

Tell me where I'm going wrong here.
  • You have a printer physically attached on the first computer
  • The first computer can print to the printer
  • On the first computer you told Windows that you want to share the printer
  • On the second computer, when you try to add a printer, you can see the first computer and its printer listed
  • ...so everything works fine! ;~)

No. On the second computer, I can only see the first computer listed. Wait - where would I be looking? Where do I go to choose a second computer?

On the second computer (the one which doesn't have a printer plugged into it) you look at Start, Settings, Printers, Add Printer. (Your mileage may vary with various version of Windows) That starts a wizard that should find the first computer (the one which *does* have a printer plugged into it). When the first computer appears, you may need to double click on it to see the printer.
Thanks for your suggestions.

On Cyn's computer, I went into the network neighborhood, right-clicked somthing (the "printer" icon, I think) and chose "install." It found my printer and installed it. So she can see my computer and printer from her computer. We're good, there.

My computer can't see the network. It used to. I don't know where it went. I'd try running the network wizard, but I'm afraid of losing what Cyn has.

It's sad that it's so hard to do such a simple thing.

I'll admit that the printer thing really wasn't htat tough, but it's only intuitive for the people who work with computers all the time.

While struggling with computers, chant this mantra: "It's Billionaire Bill's fault. It's Billionaire Bill's fault."
