I've never had a hangover. I used to attribute that to my philosophy of never going to bed drunk. But my dad says he doesn't get hangovers. And I haven't been drunk often enough to be sure about anything or test any theories. So I don't know what the deal is.

I drink enough to get a bit buzzed - enough that people can tell I've had a few, but stupid drunk just seems stupid. How much does one have to drink to get hungover?

which is not to say that I'm now too fat to get drunk.
now I would get drunk just because I've broken my training regimen.

I'm a small person but I've never had a hangover. At a certain point (which arrives sooner for me than for most people), I just know I've had enough to drink, and that going beyond that point would turn positive effects of the alchohol into negative effects.

Hum. I've been wasted a few times, but I'd take three aspirin before going to bed & then I didn't get a hangover. So I guess that means I must have been hungover at some point to know to avoid it. It's been so many years that I can't remember. I don't get "wasted" anymore. I'm waaaaaay too old for that.

A little bit of a buzz is nice, though.

I've heard that some of a hangover is caused by dehydration (your body uses water to get rid of the alcohol), or that the dehydration makes the effects of the toxic by-products of processing the alcohol worse. So, if you're borderline for getting a hangover, drinking as much water as possible (before you go to sleep, when you wake up, or just generally) can help.

I've heard that it has to do with depletion of fluid in the cranium. *shrug*

I think it is the TYPE of alcohol for some people.. When I drank hard liquor, no matter how much crow royal I drank, or how I mixed it or didn't, I NEVER felt sluggish the next morning. Now, any cheaper type of whiskey, or rum, or vodka, I could feel that I had been drinking the next morning.. although, I didn't technically have a hang over I don't think. I believe (from what other people have said) that a hangover includes headache... nausea.. light and noise sensitivity. I have never had those.

That could be. I don't drink the cheap stuff. :-D

sometimes, it's how the alcohol hits you~
i think my alcohol sensitivity springs from my tendency toward migraines~ i've had two bad reactions (ill all night
and hung over the next day) after not even finishing ONE drink~
tequila seems to be the most chancey alcoholic beverage for me,
yet irish whiskey is fine and dandy~

I think the only cheap alcohol I drink is whatever they put in margaritas. But I don't think two mixed drinks is enough to affect the average person, is it?

i don't know what "average" IS anymore!
really- my own body is all that i know
and i fail at THAT sometimes~

i do know some who call themselves "lightweights"
and they will have two drinks maximum in one evening~

I haven't gotten wasted in a long long time either, but it definitely has to do with dehydration. I had a friend who used to drink the juice from pickle jars when she was hungover.

Depends upon body chemistry and a whole bunch of other variables, right on down to what is being consumed. Then there's the whole thing about congeners (http://cocktails.about.com/library/blcongeners.htm). Also, some people are stupid drunk after three drinks and for others, it takes ten. Stupid is as stupid does, or so I've heard.

Half a bottle of red wine can be enough to give me a hangover, but the only usre way is ridiculous excess. As already mentioned drinking water before sleeping helps.

You know, it's the weirdest thing. Sebastian and Aaron are really prone to hangovers even with not drinking an awful lot. I, on the other hand, whether I drink a little or a lot (but then, I've never drank to a "being nauseous" point), I've never been the slightest bit hungover.

It's been a while, but part of it is hydration. At the end of last Feb, I went off to Reno with a friend. She and I hung out and gambled a bit the first night. I hadn't been drinking much water during the day - I was pretty despondent, and hadn't been thinking clearly. In any case, I had two Michelobe Ultra "beers" (they are NOT beer!), and had a hang-over for most of the next day. Most often, as long as I've stayed hydrated, I can have two beers and a couple of glasses of wine and not be in pain the next day.

Some folks are more sensitive to some of the natural impurities (fusil oils, etc) and get hangovers upon the first sip of red wine... so part of the hangover thing is personal body chemistry. And other people are never sober enough to know if they have a hangover... ;-)
