The Bush campaign is so slick.

Bush's detractors largely oppose war. His fans are in favor of it. His opponent was awarded for meritorious service.

So what do they do? They impugn the honor of that opponent. They say he lied about it.

This is an amazingly good move. First of all, Bush's fans now have a reason to dislike Kerry - he's not only not a war hero, but a liar too. Second, Bush's detractors are then put in a position to defend Kerry. This defense puts them in the position of appearing to back off from their antiwar stance.

It's not about bringing the issues to the American people, it's about keeping the issues from them and controlling the topics of debate.

Flip flopping? Reminds me of another tactic. Figure out what your opponent is going to call you. Then call him that first. Even if it's not true.

I read an article once that said Lyndon Johnson told his campaign people to say that his opponent screwed animals, or something like that. They were aghast and said that it wasn't true. Johnson said of course it wasn't true, but it would be fun to watch his opponent have to defend himself.

There was a guy on the radio recently discussing various claims on both sides. He made a great point... debating weather or not Kerry did bad things in the war, or even if he lied about it, is bunk; attacking Bush on the bases that he may or may not have been awol for most of his stint in the Nat'l Guard is bunk. But pointout out that Kerry who was against the war but went anyway because he felt it was his duty is gold. And contrasting that to Bush who blew-off his Nat'l Guard physical, and has no second thoughts about sending our kids off to die... (pro war but no sense of duty at all), makes that gold sparkle.

I'm still brushing up on forign language, eh, just in case the moron incumbant takes the electoral vote again. Might have to start practicing hockey and/or curling too, eh. 'Cause if he wins again, I'll have to pack my life into the car boot and head north.

*SLAPS a GOLD star on your forehead* YOU GOT IT!! Now you too can become a Republican campaign manager!

All of this CRAP amazes me. They know how to play the game and the people on the streets bow at their feet.

The thing that gets me is that it doesn't seem to matter *what* Bush did or didn't do - because he's 'born again'. It's almost as if the more bad stuff that comes out that he did years ago, the better he seems now for having 'put it all behind him'. And of course all the bad stuff he's done since 9/11 - he had to do it, for the country's sake.

His opponents really need to focus on the time between when he says he gave up drinking and when he was appointed president. And see what they can point to as being hypocritical.

If I hadn't had a democratic candidate to vote for in the primary, I was seriously considering crossing over and voting for Welch, just to raise the level of the discourse in the US Senate campaign.

I was thinking of crossing over for Russ Darrow. I don't think he stood a chance outside fo Milwaukee.
