cold summer

I didn't get hot until mid July. We seldom had the windows open until then, and never at night. Finally, a few weeks ago, it got hot. Around 90, I think. Then it cooled off again. It's been doing that ever since. It'll get up to about 72° and down into the 50's at night. Then it will slowly warm up over the course of a week, until it's in the upper eighties. Then the temp will drop.

Usually, by mid June, I'll have my living room window open with a fan in it, but there have only been two days so far this summer that were warm enough that I felt I should have opened it. I didn't. I only open it once a year, so I want to be sure it warrants it. It's too much effort to close.

What all is involved in opening and shutting it?

It's really old, and it's coming apart, so it rocks in its frame. It takes several minutes to coax open. It's quite production.

I want to only have to open windows to be comfortable.
The nights down south get all the way down to 80 or 90. They're freaked out when it gets into the low 70's.
