I'd swear we'd done the dishes more recently than three days ago, but there were three sets of dinner dishes and we ate out one day. It took me over an hour. But then I wiped odwn ever surface I could get my hands on and scoured the sink. Then I reneged on my promise to clean the bathroom because I had already soaked my hands in water for the previous hour-plus.

So that was about it for my night. I have no idea where the other two hours went. I skimmed the newspaper, talked to my friend Doug and... ate supper.

Last night were were down at Cyn's. I painted the outside of the two basement windows. One was rather uncomfortable, since I had to squeeze through an opening about as wide as my shoulders and prop myself up on one elbow and reach with my other arm to paint.

I was happy that some of the irises there were recovinging from their fungus, but dismayed to find an infestation of iris borers. Ugly little whitish worms burrowing down the leaves and into the rhizomes. Between the two afflictions, they should probably all be dug up and burned.

I don't think there were three sets of dinner dishes. I used a dinner plate to heat up my lunch yesterday, and another one to lay out the chicken breasts to thaw. But then again, there were three coffee mugs so maybe it has been that long. It certainly feels like I stood at that sink for an hour only two days before.

I hope none of your friends are grossing out over our neglect of dishes. I try to get them done every night but we've been overworked with remodeling, so other things slip.

If I had stayed up and done them, then you could have done the bathroom and everything would be better. I'm sorry. No, wait! I worked hard yesterday so what got done was all that could be done. No apologies.

You sound awfully defensive. Then that makes me want to make excuses too. Stop it.

Everyone knows we're busy. You're tired, you went to bed. No problems.

When I first retired I would do the dishes once per day. I don't use many things and that seemed plenty. Now, I must admit that there are times when I see dishes and realize I didn't do them yesterday--or the day before.

Also, once or twice I've had things disappear completely. A favorite cereal bowl. The small knives I use most. At first I just lived with it, as I do when things first disappear. Then I had some reason to open the dishwasher and realized I had stuck some things in there so the kitchen would be neat for a particular reason. I'm not using the dishwasher much anymore.
