We're down at Cyn's old place trying to get some work done. She's cleaned off the outsides of the cabinets to get them ready for painting. I've trimmed the shrubbery and replaced most of the bad ceiling tiles in the basement.

There's lots more to do. I think we've only got two weekends left for the miscellaneous stuff, and then back to the big project - the kitchen. I think we've got one full week of work to get it ready for the countertop installation. Finish patching up the walls, remove the countertop and plumbing, spray texture, paint, paint the cabinets. Then they install the countertop. And I have to replace the diswasher, sometime in there.

Then they do the floor. We're having laminate flooring installed. It's a bit more expensive than vinyl flooring, but I think it will increase the value of the home by more than the difference. At least we thought so until they told us the stairs would cost us $30 a step (in addition to materials). I don't know what that's all about.

We'll be back down here tomorrow and painting my upstairs apartment on Monday. Nice to have a day off.

The $30 a step, is because it's more of an art, than just laying out a kitchen floor. You have to cut more. etc. It's a pain in the ass...how about that explaination. :)

We get more money when there's a longer distance, more stairs, having to actually hire estra trucks and people.......it goes on.

Still, I think $30 per step is a little excessive. That doesn't even include the cost of the materials. It's over and above all the other costs. 10 steps = $300 extra. I'm rather certain that we're not going to have them do it.

Let's say that the installers get fifteen dollars an hour, and there's two of them, and it takes half an hour (which seems genrous) to put one in. Where does the other thirty dollars go?

If the installers get paid by the hour, then it goes right into the company's pockets. That's unfair, I know, but that's capitalism. We do long carries for free now, but United still gets the fee.

i ought to be workity, but i can't seem to get past thinking of things i need to do. every time something comes to mind, (and there are a lot of things), i go through this weird shift and lose all motivation.

Sometimes it's a struggle to get this work done. We know there are things to be done so we go down there, but then we either sit around making lists of the things we have to do, or we sit around trying to figure out what we want to do.

I guess the countertop "snafu" with Home Depot was resolved? Last I heard, your order had somehow been overlooked, and it might mean more waiting for the install.

I finally got hold of the expediter at HD, and she told me, "they're coming to measure tomorrow." And that that date wouldn't have been confirmed unless they had talked to me. So I wonder who they talked to. So they came and measured and we should get it installed in another three weeks. Which is fine, as long as we have everything else done by then.
