There are holidays that are sponsored by the greeting card industry, like Sweetest Day, and then there are holidays that are sponsored by the beverage industry, like St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo.

We don't bother much with St. Patrick's day, except in Irish-themed pubs. I don't even know what Cinco de Mayo or Sweetest Day are.

Yesterday was Star Wars day - "May the 4th. be with you".

Cinco de Mayo (the Fifth of May) is Mexico's Indepedence day. They don't celebrate it so much as observe it. Here, though, everyone of Mexican descent celebrates it with gusto - and tequila. And so does anyone else who needs an excuse to drink.

Sweetest day is like Valentine's day, only you're supposed to send cards to all your good friends, rather than just your special friend.
