Is the glass half full or half empty?

And of what?

Gap analysis indicates that the design specification of the glass exceeds actual demands on it.

But was it the design of the glass, a deficient supply mechanism, an excessive removal mechanism or poor forecasting?

Usually it's the fault of reality not meeting expectations. The systems being used for supply or demand are seperate functions requiring different guidance. As long as the design at least meets the forecast, it is sufficient to the process. The question is does the excess capacity in any way hamper other processes that may need that operational space?

It always seems to be the fault of not meeting expectations. Stock prices rise and fall on forecasts moreso than actual profits.

As for the glass, I think that the delivery functions best when it is at half capacity.

I love the analysis! My friends and I used to play games like that by making up tax questions and throwing in all kinds of tax-law in the answer.

If it's half empty, it's also half full. I never did understand that question. :P

And of water!

I always wondered why it made a difference. Being half empty implies that it used to be full, but now it's halfway to being empty and therefore a negative. But what if it's half empty because half is in my stomache?

Eek! Too much analysis! Yeah, supposedly half empty is negative/pessimistic and half full is be positive/optimistic. That's so judgmental. What if it's half full because someone drank only half and the rest will be wasted? Gack, now you've got me doing it.

If it's half empty, it's also half full. Simple as that. :P

And I've learned not to make assumptions about contents.

what glass?
where are my glasses?

Date: 2004-05-05 07:07 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com
Well, half of it's full of whatever is in it, dried beans, paint water, soy milk, vodka... the other half is full of air.

But if one is to use this test to determine whether I'm an optimist or a pessimist, it makes a difference what is in it. Unless, of course, you don't believe it really makes a difference what you call it - halfway is halfway.

The glass is a bottle, and the bottle is half-empty. Luckily, there's more in the fridge.

Good point.

A pessimist actually consider the glass half full (of piss).

I've been thinking about buying one of these: http://www.demotivators.com/pessimistmug.html

My glass is empty. It's your round.

BTW I thought you hated that question?

I do.

It depends when you ask. Right now the glass is half full of spoiled milk.

Date: 2004-05-05 04:19 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
So is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Date: 2004-05-05 04:21 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] sunshyncat.livejournal.com
That's bad. I hate my job.
