A couple of weeks ago I asked for help with my electronics. A couple of you suggested an A/B switch for RCA plugs. I had forgotten that my VCR had RCA jacks, so that was the suggestion I needed. I finally got around to hooking it up and I got nothing.

The VCR apparently doesn't put signal out through those jacks. It still works through the coaxial cable, but not the RCA.

Before I tried this, I had to unhook the coax and attach the RCA cords from the DVD player. Now that doesn't even work. I get no picture from the DVD player, even though I have it set up like I did last week.

I imagine there's something simple that I'm missing with regards to the DVD player, and something complex, like some settings on the VCR, but I really have no idea. And since I can no longer even connect the coax to the back of the TV, we are completely without moving pictures.

Can you provide model information for your VCR, DVD, and TV? I'll work out a wiring chart from that.

They're all JVC. Do you want more specific than that? The TV is about ten years old. The VCR is HR-J610U. DVD is XV-N50.

What I really don't get is why the DVD worked before and not now. I'd swear I've got it hooked up the exact same way that I did last week.

I connected the VCR directly to the TV with the RCA cords and it didn't work (I've used coax all these years).

The A/B switch would be nice, but right now I'd settle for having to remove the coax and plug in the RCA to watch a DVD.

Thanks.

No luck on models.... do you have a digital camera? Care to take pics of the jack locations on all equipment? Oh, and send me a reuben, as I'm hungry.

Hey, as long as I'm asking......

I'm still checking on your suggestion about the input selection. There's a menu item that sounds suspiciously like that (sorry no sandwiches), but that remote is missing, so I'll have to do some more digging.

Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

Yah -- that is a seperate 'tuner', or lack thereof, and so you have to switch to that 'channel' (often called LINEIN, L1, or something similar).

Good luck finding a way to do it, or getting a universal remote with the function.

I had a problem like that after we moved...I hooked up the dvd player and got no picture...

turns out I had the yellow plug in the white hole and the white plug in the yellow hole...yellow and white look alike in the dark area behind the tv.

I'm seriously electro-challenged and this is probably useless information, but I figured I'd share my "duh!" moment with the hope that it might help in some strange way...

It could be that, since I think it's gotta be something glaringly simple, but you'd think that *one* of the times I had it hooked up, it would have been right.

Thanks!

It's not competence so much as video magic. If you can, do take picis of the backs of the sources and the sink (in english, please post photos of the output jacks on the backs of the VCR and DVD, and the back of the TV).

I've done a fair number of these things, it can be daunting, but once worked out it's usually easy. Do use a nice, bright flashlight so you can tell the yellows from the whites, etc, and be sure you're not plugging "RGB" or composite outputs into plain-video inputs (and vice versa).

This will be a slow project because I seldom have time to work on it. First I'm going to try to locate the remote and play with the menus some more, to see if it is input selection. I kinda think not, since I had the DVD player working once. After that, if it still not working, I'll post pics.

Thanks!
