This is starting to turn into a long project. Yesterday was a really tiring day. Today wasn't so bad because we didn't have to work as hard, but that was disappointing because there is still work to do. It was kind of a sit-around-and-wait day, since we had to wait for plaster to dry.
I was hoping to have the new floor in before our "vacation" was over, but we'll be lucky to have it painted. I really wanted to have the texture sprayed on the walls, but we were about an hour short today. That would have been nice.
The whole reason we're remodeling is to fix up the house for sale. After the bathroom, we need to do something to the kitchen. I'm pretty sure it won't be as involved as this bathroom has been. We're heading into the home stretch, though. We've been expecting to be able to put the house on the market in March. That's a lot of hard work leading up to that.
My tenant threw a monkey wrench into the works. He's moving out. The reason this is a problem, is that I need to compeltely remodel the apartment. It was in need of that before he moved in, and now it's in even worse shape. I've been saying since he moved in that I'd gut the place, and now I need to do that right in the middle of all this other work. The guy couldn't have waited six months. Or gone six months earlier.
*sigh*
I could just clean it up the best I can and rent it out again. I couldn't get as much for rent, though.
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and gut it. I can do the demolition with the help of a bunch of my friends. I'll have a bring-a-hammer party. I have to hire an electrician anyway. I can manage the plumbing. I think I can get some drywallers relatively cheaply. I don't do carpet either. That leaves insulation, windows, kitchen cabintery, kitchen flooring, painting, woodwork, doors.
With any luck I can work on Cyn's kitchen during the downtime while I'm waiting on the electrician or drywallers.
*deep breath*
It's not slowing down any time soon.
But it's going to pay off.

Date: 2004-01-02 09:42 pm (UTC)From:Ray and I have just finished going through this with my mother's burned house. It was hard work, but it's over now. And we can now putter around here at Rivendell.
