I found out about a really cool site. In addition to all the usual astronomy stuff you'd expect to find, this site can show you, for any given place and time, what you can see in the sky. I know, you're thinking, "that's why I'd expect find on a website devoted to astronomy, " but you haven't seen the site yet. It will tell you which artificial satellites can be seen and where to see them. Like the Mir, or the Space Shuttle. Or any of hundreds of other satellites. It tells you where and when they'll come up, and where and when they will be the highest, and where and when they'll go below the horizon.
Well... I thought it was pretty cool.
Now if I only had time to go out and look at some of this stuff....
It is www.heavens-above.com

Date: 2001-03-06 10:25 am (UTC)From:It's basically a clock, but it also has a wonderful world map. Here's a screen capture of the world centred on Winnipeg:
The shadow is animated, you can zoom in and out, and roll the world over.
There's also astronomical data. For example, as I write this, the moon is 362586.19km from Minneapolis (oops - make that 362584.85km and counting) and there are 5h 44m 02s of daylight left. I didn't do this for London, as it's already dark here.
Loads of other stuff too (and they're not paying me a penny to say this).
here it is!
