Yesterday my dad said,
Not much new with Dave. They haven't taken him off the medication yet. He's had pneumonia and when they try to reduce the oxygen he's not getting enough, plus he gets too agitated with the tubes in. So they're doing more xrays of the lungs and another CAT scan of the brain. They say he's doing real good, I assume they mean considering all that happened to him. Sure is a slow proccess though.

And then today he said:
The latest report on Dave is that they got the tubes out of his throat. He watches people but they don't know if he recognizes them. He hasn't talked yet, but moans once in a while like he's in pain. They still can't get him to do anything they ask him. They say the side of the brain that got the damage is what controls hearing, so maybe he isn't even hearing what they ask him. I'm going to ask if anyone tried writing something to him.

Those tubes can really agitate you. They had to tie my hands to the bed railings because I was trying to pull the ventilator out. Besides writing to him provide a way for him to communicate. I wanted to write, but couldn't hold a pen and make anything legible. A magnetic letterboard might work. The most frustrating thing (for me) was not being able to communicate.
