Thanks you all for your thoughts. The doctors say he is in good condition (relatively speaking). They hope to take the tubes out tomorrow. He moves a lot, but doesn't respond to verbal stimuli.

A doctor said he has an irregular heartbeat, but that that wouldn't cause him to pass out. Two other people say it does, though. One of those people says he's seen it happen, and when the person passes out it's like a switch goes off and they hit the ground hard.

Dave landed on his back/side and has multiple skull fractures and the broken collarbone. My dad says he may have hit a curb.

Years ago my brother, Russell, had an episode when his heart stopped suddenly and he fell heavily to the floor. He was inside and had flooring to land on. The doctor thought the heavy jolt of falling had started his heart again. If Dave's head hit concrete that would account for a lot of damage.

That hasn't happened to Russell since, and his heart is not in bad shape.
