longest lineups

For many years, I've kept an eye on the longest stable lineups of bands. These are the five longest that I've found:

#5. Rolling Stones: sixteen years. From when Ron Wood joined in '76 until Bill Wyman left in '92.

#4. Queen: 20 years. Formed in '71. Freddie Died in '91

#3. U2: 26 years. Formed in '77 (first record in '80).

#2. Rush: 28 years. From When Neil Peart joined the band in '75 to present.

#1. ZZ Top: 34 years. Formed in '69. Still going.


I imagine I've missed some, so if anyone can provide any other bands or corrections, please do so.

The Moody Blues come to mind.... I don't think they've had many personell changes over the years.

They have changed membership more than once, but I'll bet they've had a rather long stable period or two. I'll check into it.

Hmm. One source says Moraz replaced Pinder in '87, and another says in '81. If it was '87, that would be a 20 year run. Do you know?

Not for sure, but I saw them live in 1981 and Moraz wasn't in the band then. I would guess it was more like '87.

Interesting you bring them up. When I first started doing research on this issue, the book I had listed them as never changing their lineup. But the book was oddly vague about it, so I never officially added them to the list. I never did further research until tonight, though. They did periodically change lineups. I was interested to learn that this is their 40th year since the boys first started playing together.
