On the way down to Cyn's last night, I felt the need to check if I remembered to bring my wallet (or money, driver's license and credit card). I felt my back pocket and it was there. I had to run to Home Depot for supplies and while I was waiting for paint, I checked again. Yep, still there. I was standing in line with $45 worth of stuff when I pulled my "wallet" out, only to find that there was no credit card in it. And only $15 in cash.

Earlier in the evening, I went over to my mom's. I owed her a little money, so I tore a check out of the book and put it in my pocket. She wasn't home, so I still had the check.

Two rare events converged. Having no credit card (but the rest of my "wallet"), and having a check along.

But I still had no idea why the card was separated from my cash. It wasn't on my kitchen table. Or dresser. Strange.

When I got home there was a message on the machine from the manager at Sears. They found it. Three days after the clerk had forgotten to remove it from the ka-chunker. The magnetic strip no longer works, so he had to do a manual imprint. That was Monday night.

I prefer paying with credit card. After having to write a couple of checks, I had to go to the bank tonight to transfer funds into my checking account. Their computer wasn't working so it took freaking forever, and they were so rushed that they forgot to give me my cash from the transaction. Again, there was a message on my machine saying they had my cash and I should stop in and get it.

This begs the question why I can't make sure I get what's coming to me before I leave the counter. That's twice this week.

I'm on autopilot most of the time. And my memory is pretty bad. I'd forget my legs if I could leave without them.
