That is both interesting and very sad. I think the saddest cases are those when the wife does leave, goes to a shelter, and the husband tracks her down when she leaves the shelter and then kills her.

Not only is escape difficult psychologically and for basic needs reasons, it is difficult to maintain if the abuser is angry and determined.

Those are the ones that get me - the ones that hold onto their anger long enough to plan something like that. No heat-of-the-moment thing there.

In a lecture hall at the University of Salamanca in Spain, there are 3 medieval oil paintings of 3 successive Spanish queens who all died in childbirth. Because they were of noble birth they were thought to require bleeding, and they were all tapped on liters of blood as they went into labour. At least we have moved on from such barbaric practises...
