The scene I was asking about yesterday was in an old west town. It was a comedy. Recognize it?
Blazing Saddles. Remember the scene where Sheriff Bart was trying to capture Mongo? He went into the saloon with a candygram for Mongo. It exploded, and you saw Mongo look up at you with his face blackened. Then you probably wondered how he got from there to chained up in the jail. It doesn't really make sense, does it? There was another scene after that, where Mongo is walking in the street and is called over to a shooting game. A mechanical cowboy asks him to put in a quarter and draw on the count of three. Just before three, a panel opens up in the mechanical cowboy's chest, and a cannon pops out and blasts Mongo. This apparently didn't work either. I think there was one more test before the one that worked. Finally, Mongo was stopped by Bart, who tried to convince him to look for sunken treasure. He didn't seem to be going for it until he thought Bart said there were baloons down there. "Spanish baloons?" So he donned an old time diving suit and went down. Then Bart went on break and stopped the air pump. That's how they finally captured Mongo.
Now why didn't you know this? There were several scenes that were filmed but cut out of the theatrical release. When the movie was censored for television release, it was probably so short that they decided to add back in some of the scenes they cut. I know them because I taped it from TV. I haven't watched it in many years (and may no longer even have it).
Another scene was after Bart and Jim disguised themselves as KKK members, and ran. They had lost the pointy hats, but still had on the robes. They ended up joining a baptism party down by the river. Wade in the water... wade in the water...
The third scene that I remember was after the townspeople built the fake Rock Ridge. While they were waiting for the bad guys to show up, the Governor's stagecoach rolled into town and stopped for some publicity shots with the locals. "But governor! These people are dummies!" "I know that. How do you think I got elected." There was also the line (I can't remember what it was in response to), "Damn unions are strangling the west. Don't print that! Don't print that! I'll lose the blue collar vote."
So there you have it. Does anyone remember any of this? Some of this was released on the Special Edition VHS that was released a few years ago. After the movie there is a section that has a lot of interviews and it shows some of these cut scenes.
