Yeah, I've noticed that. Seriously, I've pondered this point. I saw an article about how the Democrats are going to be hurt more than the Republicans by the Campaign Reform Act. Sometimes it hurts to do the right thing. Why does it seem like only one side is doing it?

Yes, excellent Doonesbury this week. I thought about posting it but I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted to say about it. It's true that the Democrats seem weighed down by something, and it could very well be that we're trying so hard to be open and fair...while the other side doesn't bother and they slam ahead without an inkling of care.

I think part of it is also that there are any number of ways of being liberal/progressive/revolutionary, but essentially only one way of being conservative/traditional - hence many/much more splits/factionalism on the left than on the right. Not that left/right always lines up with progressive/conservative, depending on the history of one's country.

I've been noticing more splits in the Republican party starting with Pro-Choice Republicans who are so very very close to agreeing with Democrats. Then there are the extremist conservatives who make everyone cringe.

The thing that gets me is not that all the conservatives are the same, it's that they're all so focused on one or two issues, that they don't care what the other ones are. They're all fired up about abortion, or religion, or they're big business rulers, or the only thing that matters is their guns. If these people would wake up to what the other parts of their party are doing, they'd be upset.

The liberals, by definition, don't want anyone to get hurt. They're willing to risk abuses of the system just so the ones who need help get it. They work so hard to make everyone happy. Everyone never will be.
