Only if I want to sell it. And move out of town.

why "and move out of town"?
is this the permanent house for all-time?
seriously- i think it is, but i don't know the plan~
...is there a plan? i always need one. plus a back-up.
heh.

I say that because increased property values only gain the owner one thing - is higher selling price. But if values go up in general, when one sells a house and buys a new one in the same area, he still doesn't gain anything. So the only way I'd gain is to sell it and move to a new area - one which hasn't had a similar gain in values.

So, no, the moving isn't really a plan.

increase values bring a higher tax bill and that goes to pay for the services you get from your town.....shouldn't the people that clean the streets get a pay raise now and then?...raise the rent on the other half of the duplex.....

Sure they should. But it sure seems like a lot.

when was the last time the values changed?.....then look at the increase as an annual percentage....i'd bet that you're still below the annual cost of living increase

Three years ago. That's $5000 a year. And the house isn't in good enough shape to raise the rent much. If it keeps up, I won't be able to afford to live in this town anymore.

yup, so goes the way of "progress"...

It bugs me not simply because it's raising my taxes, it bugs me because my tazes are going up just because everybody wants to live here.

that is the way of the world......i suppose you could try to institute a law to keep property values for tax purposes at the level they were when ou bought the place......but that would put you into the mess they have in CA

are you selling?

Nope. I may have to raise rent, though.

I have no clue whether that's a lot or not.

Seems like a lot, but it isn't that much, really. It's less than your house went up last time.
