my leg hurts

I had that big red spot on my leg. I decided to see what happened to it today, and decide whether to see the doctor. I decided it wasn't getting any better. Then I decided it was hurting a little more.

The doctor drew a line on my leg around the spot, several inches away from it. He pointed out that my leg was all red inside the line. He gave me a prescription for antibiotics and told me to watch the redness. If it crossed the line, I should go the hospital and get an antibiotic IV.

So much for working in the basement tonight. Or tomorrow night.

Ew! Did the doctor indicate whether it might be a spider bite or something?

When I went in about that lump today the doctors did say that if it doesn't go down on its own they could give me antibiotics but that it probably won't be necessary, so whew.

No, he said the infection could have been caused by anything - bug bite, scrape, sting, whatever. I suspected that because I was trimming the bushes earlier in the evening, and kicking around piles of brush. Maybe a bug bite that got infected when I scratched it? Sure came on quickly, though, if that's the case. Doctor said it could wait for up to a week before getting infected.

I'm glad your annoying lump wasn't a worrisome one.

if it starts making red veins up your leg go ASAP. I had cellulitis last August after a wasp bite and ended up in the hospital overninight w/ antibiotic IV.

There were some lines going upwards that were faint enough that the doc wasn't sure, but by evening, they were pretty distinct. Fortunately, they were gone this morning.
