If someone is doing something that bothers you (for a long time), and then he stops doing it, don't tell him after the fact that it bothered you. Either give him the opportunity to rectify the situation, or forver hold your peace.
I'm thinking of things that have direct bearing on a personal relationship, but imagine if somebody told you, "I'm glad you got rid of those ugly glasses," that you had for years.
