I said goodbye to Mark tonight. It was kind of sad. He's starting a two year tour in Bahrain. It's not like we were close friends, but he was a good man. He'll certainly be missed in the troop. I'm not sure it would still be together if it weren't for him.

I'm going to visit my extended family in Indiana this weekend. I'm not really looking forward to it. It will be okay, but I'm not very excited about it. Probably the best part is that I'm taking along our department's laptop. I might even get some online time.

I saw something in the grocery store that was just wrong. Patriotic Peeps. They were white with red and blue sprinkles. But it wasn't your average sprinkles, like sugar or jimmies, it was shreds of somethingorother. Just randomly sized... shreds. It looked awful. And then there was the issue of Peeps. Patriotic peeps? Show your deidcation to the red white and blue by eating something that's red white and blue! And it's a manufactured snack food. Whatever happened to apple pie? Oh yeah, Hostess bought the rights. I suppose Patriotic Peeps summarise what a lot of people see in America - must consume mass quantities!

I know what you mean. I saw something at the grocery store the other day, but I can't remember it was something colored red, white and lots of blue. I remember thinking, it sure didn't look appetizing. So...can we expect more patriotic food on the shelves...has it (nationalism) gone too far?

There are other flags that are red, white and blue. Maybe you could eat them (the peeps, not the flags) and feel patriotic for, um, say France!

(or Russia, or the UK, or NZ...)

Put them out at a party as French Peeps! Comment loudly at the store that it is nice to see a product that supports France!

Then, buy them on sale for half-price a week later when nobody will touch them. Hey, marshmallow is marshmallow.

You aren't looking forward to the reunion? Even with your dad going this year?

I see my dad all the time. ;-)

I'm sure it will be fine. Maybe I just haven't had the time to build the proper pre-gathering frenzy.

If you've run out of things to worry about, you might consider worrying that Kevin thinks the best thing about going taking the computer--not TAKING YOU. :^)

I have submitted your name for induction into the geek hall of fame.

Yeah, well, if you knew my family...

Okay it won't be *that* bad. But it is a six hour drive down there, and another hour of driving each day. Then to hang out with the family. It's not the most fun thing in the world. I wouldn't go every year if I felt I had a choice.

I get to see my grandma. That will be nice.

The reason I'm taking the laptop is because I'm also taking Cyn's scanner, and I'm going to ask grandma to dig out all her old pictures and I'm gonna scan them. I'm looking forward to that.

Good plan. When (if) I have a spare half hour I'm planning to scan more old photos.

"patriotic peeps"?..........eeeewwwww!...what a scam to try to sell that crap all year instead of just at Easter.....i think i'll pass.....

if i was given the choice of attending an extended family gathering or going on a river trip with a few friends, i'd take the river trip....i hope your weekend turns out well.....

My first thought was, "it's not Fourth of July yet!"

i'm thankful that patriotism has nothing to do with eating patriotic peeps.....

oh, tomorrow is "flag day"!......perhaps the peeps were intended to promote flag day?, or d-day last friday?

i dunno about you, but i'll be celebrating the start of the korean war (the 25th) with a nice plane ride up to Kotzebue (just above the arctic circle).....
