I was talking to a friend last night. He said his new dishwasher uses less than five gallons of water. That's less than he uses to wash them by hand.

That amazes me when people know exactly how much water they use for something.

Sounds like an excellent dishwasher, conservation-wise. Wonder if it cleans as well...

i believe there are quite a few 3 to 5 gallon dishwashers out there now, water use is a big selling point at the dishwasher store.....almost as big a point as quiet operation....i believe my dishwasher to be in the low water use category.....we were sensitive about that when picking appliances because we are on our own low yield well and have a septic system for wastewater disposal....but, the bathroom is prolly the biggest water user in the house......unless you water the garden...most of the US still has the old 5 gallon flush.....

Most washers (at least older ones) use about 40 gallons.

the front loading washer that we use is a low water useage machine......and it uses water in proportion to the quantity of clothes being washed...

Looks like I'd better replace mine (I've lived in my house 12 years now, and it was in place when I moved in...)...
