Cyn's Internet Explorer refreshes when you hit the back button. This is annyoing. I just came for there - I don't need it to refresh. And it takes so much time. Does anyone know how we can change this?

Also, another friend has this problem where when she's online and she gets a phone call, it boots her offline. It might have to do with call-waiting. I'm not sure what browser she's using, or even what computer, but does anyone have any suggestions as to how she might correct the problem?

I don't use Internet Explorer, so I can't help ya there.

When using dial-up, by placing *70, before the number to dial, it will disable call waiting.

When they dial up, do they use a dial up networking window (DUN)? There it should have areas to put in the user name and password for their ISP. Under that is an area to put the number to dial. In front of that number, they need to place *70, (include the comma). This will dial first, disabling call waiting, then the usual number will dial. If they use a dialer from AOL or anything but DUN, I don't know what they have to do for this.

Here's something I found - http://howto.lycos.com/lycos/step/1,,139+25257+2273,00.html this has illustrations on how to make the above change permanently.

I can look for more information if you think it may be helpful.

Look at Internet Options in the Control Panel (or in IE on the Tools menu). In the Temporary Internet Files box, hit the settings button. There are some options for when to check for newer versions - try "automatic". It also shows you there were the files are stored - check that the directory exists.

You mean where it says, "Check for newer version of stored page: Every time you start Internet Explorer"? That's what it says, not "Always" or "Every visit to the page."

Yes. It's not that, then, if the directory exists and the maximum size is reasonably large.

Some sites will be trying to stop the page being cached, but if it happens all the time, there's something wrong.

Plan B - get Mozilla or Opera.

What do you mean about the directory?

I think it is that there's something wrong. Old computer.

In the same dialog as those options about "Check for newer version of stored page", there should be a directory name where the cached files are stored, and a size limit.

Hmmm. That could be it.
