There are active volcanoes three miles down, under the artic icecap. They've also found hydrothermal vents (geysers) on mountain ridges down there.
Amazing! But I think I've got you beat, this is the volcano I've got looming on the horizon.

How many miles is is down to the core of the earth? Do we know what's at the core? I know, I know--I could look it up on the web but I thought you might know off the top of your head.

The core is nicek and steel, I think. Then the molten mantle. The the relatively thin crust. I couldn't tell you the mileage.
