A friend has been trying to sell his house for several months, and had very little interest. He's getting pissed. And he's getting pissed at his realtor. Is there something that a good realtor would be doing to sell a house?

Maybe his asking price is too high?

He's brought his price down, and the neighbor's house just sold for over its assessed value.

Real estate is like women (or men, depending)...sometimes it takes awhile to find a good match....

It is probably only indicative of our ecnomic times. Houses are taking longer to sell in every state. I would suggest having a realtor that is willing to advertise and have open houses. I believe 'Open Houses' help out the most. A fresh coat of paint and lots of flowers really help too. Most realtors have a contract so 'firing' them is not always very easy but it helps to have a good realtionship with them regarding how you feel about the progress or lack of..

There were still flowers out when he first listed the home. >:-(

I don't think he's had an open house.

See my other comments here.

either the asking price is too high or he's not reaching the market....he should ask his realtor what he has done to market the home........if the realtor has done squat, he might be able to jerk the guy's contract......the whole realty biz is a scam for some folks....

Well, he's brought his price down, and there have been two neighboring homes that have sold since his has been on the market. He's only gotten three inquiries. He's contracted with the guy until Jan. 1.

My friend is desperate because his wife is living out of state. He needs to sell the house so he can pack up the kids and join her.

i think your friend needs to confront the realtor (or perhaps the broker) and find out just what they are doing to market the house........is it in the multiple listings?.......do other realtors have spec sheets on it?.......yada-yada...

the realtor might be wanting to be the buying and selling realtor.....thereby making ALL the commission.....and that's crapola

One suggestion he had was to talk to the realtor's head office. Maybe they would switch agents.
