Actually, he said he does that because he once injured his wrist, and when some people shake his hand they grip really tightly, and his hand hurts afterwards. This is a bad thing, especially for a flautist, so he's adopted the elbow rubbing.

Hey, I meant to mention to you while we were sitting there...Steve Palec shook hands with the men from the audience who came up to ask questions, but never the women. I wonder why? The first woman up there put out her hand to him after the song as she was exiting the stage. He just backed up and guided her off with his hand on her back.

I don't know. I didn't notice that. Was it the same when they came on stage?

Women aren't generally into handshking as much as men are, so a lot of people don't offer their hands to women. But if the woman offers her hand, I don't see a reason not to shake.

Maybe Steve was nervous, and missed her gesture.
