Advantage to getting a new furnace installed in the summer: You won't get cold while the furnaces are out.

Disadvantage to getting a new furnace installed in the summer: They have to test it.

Advantage to getting a new furnace installed in the summer: You can have the windows open in order to air the place out, of the oily smell and/or smoke.

Or (going back to my childhood) coal jamming the automatic furnace stoker worm gear drive thing and making the furnace go out...

How do they look? Are they smaller than the old ones?

They're shorter, less green, and a little narrower. And they smell oily (until the oil burns off of the steel of the heating chamber).

And they let me keep the blower out of one of the old ones, so now Ihave another fan. :-)
